Dr. Stavros Stavrou

Biography

Stavros Stavrou is a Lecturer in the College of Education at the University of Saskatchewan. He earned his B.Sc. in 2010 and M.Sc. in 2012, with a focus on tensors and quantum entanglement. He completed his M.Ed. in 2015 and received his Ph.D. in 2020, with a dissertation that utilized narrative inquiry to examine the experiences of Cree school teachers in the context of Indigenization mandates. His research interests include anti-oppressive education, decolonization, and Indigenous mathematics education. Dr. Stavrou has extensive teaching experience in various undergraduate and graduate mathematics courses, as well as in teacher education programs. In addition to his teaching, he has served as an Online Facilitator and Outreach Coordinator, where he developed and managed online courses, significantly reducing textbook costs for students. His scholarly work focuses on the intersections of narrative research and educational equity, emphasizing the complexities of classroom life and the impact of social justice issues. He has contributed to the academic community through various roles, including Program Co-Chair and Program Chair for the Narrative Research Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association. Dr. Stavrou is committed to mentoring students and fostering inclusive learning environments.
