Biography

Stephanie Gaillard is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of French and Francophone Studies at Brown University. Originally from France, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in French Linguistics and Master’s degree in Teaching French Language from Université Bordeaux Montaigne. Her academic journey continued with a Fulbright Teaching Grant in 2008, leading her to pursue a Doctorate in French Language Acquisition and Teacher Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she graduated with a Ph.D. in 2014. Before joining Brown in 2021, Professor Gaillard coordinated French courses at Louisiana State University and held positions at Champagne Business School in France and the University of California at San Diego. At Brown, she teaches French language courses for students at various proficiency levels and oversees the language program, mentoring Teaching Assistants and Visiting Teaching Associates. Gaillard has also established a DELF testing center at Brown, supporting students in obtaining certification in language proficiency. Her research interests encompass language pedagogy, language proficiency development, and effective assessment in language teaching, while she is actively engaged in various professional organizations aiming to enhance language education.
