Biography

In 2014, Stephen's love for chemistry led him to obtain a PhD focused on Physical Organic Chemistry. He came to understand that his true vocation lay in teaching and mentoring, a realization fostered by the experiences he undertook rather than bench work. In 2016, Stephen seized the opportunity to undertake a PhD in Chemical Education, which resulted in him developing a unique dual understanding of how chemistry is taught (and, in turn, how research on teaching can change). Over the years, he has investigated new industry-inspired teaching laboratories, continuing to explore ways to optimize student laboratory time within his new role at the University of Sydney. Stephen has developed a curiosity about the role of empathy in teaching and learning, particularly concerning how stakeholders (students, academics, etc.) perceive educational frameworks. He serves as a Senior Lecturer in Chemistry with an Education Focus at the University of Sydney.
