Victoria Murphy is a Professor of Applied Linguistics at St Anne's College, University of Oxford. Her research focuses on understanding the inter-relationships between child second language and foreign language learning, vocabulary, and literacy development. Her work examines cross-linguistic relationships and the linguistic systems involved in emergent bilingual children’s foreign language learning, particularly in primary school contexts. Victoria has received funding from the Economic and Social Research Council, the Leverhulme Trust, the Nuffield Foundation, and the Educational Endowment Foundation for her studies. She has authored two books on young language learners and has published numerous refereed journal articles and book chapters. From 2018 to 2021, she served as Chair of the National Association for Language Development in the Curriculum (NALDIC), working closely with teachers in the UK and internationally to support language education programs. Victoria holds a B.A.H. in Linguistics and Psychology from Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada, an M.A. in Educational Psychology from McGill University, Canada, and a Ph.D. in Language Education from McGill University, Canada.
