Biography

Xavier Fazio is a Professor in the Department of Educational Studies at Brock University. He holds a Doctorate in Curriculum Instruction with a focus on science education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. He is a certified teacher in biology and environmental science and has an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry. Dr. Fazio is an affiliate member of the Environmental Sustainability Research Centre at Brock University. His research primarily revolves around science education, environmental sustainability education, teacher education development, and curricular innovation. He is currently the principal investigator of a major Insight Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada that is investigating the connection between school science and local communities to promote meaningful engagement for students in science. His past research has involved partnerships with researchers from various countries including Brazil, Australia, and those within the European Union. He has served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Science Teacher Education and is an active reviewer for multiple education journals. Dr. Fazio has taught numerous courses focused on science teacher education and environmental education, targeting pre-service teachers and graduate students.
