Dr. Alena Barysevich

Biography

Alena Barysevich is an Associate Professor specializing in Applied Linguistics with a focus on teaching and learning French as a Second or Foreign Language. She has expertise in sociolinguistic competence in L2, sociodidactics, pedagogies, and technologies related to language education. Her research interests include French language teaching and learning, particularly in Canadian minority contexts, as well as bilingual and plurilingual education at the university level. Barysevich employs 21st-century approaches and socio-constructivist theory in her teaching and research, emphasizing experiential learning, action-oriented approaches, task-based instruction, and competence-based approaches. She has extensive experience in designing and evaluating professional training programs and curricula for online, hybrid, and face-to-face formats. Her key research projects include investigating translanguaging pedagogy and the fundamentals of language learning, supported by various grants. She is actively involved in mentored training and consultations on new approaches to French as a Second Language education. Her scholarly contributions have been published in reputable journals, addressing themes such as language variation, bilingual education, and communicative strategies in second language classrooms.
