Biography

Barbara Brown is an Associate Professor at the Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary, specializing in Learning Sciences. She holds a Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Calgary, and has previously earned an M.Ed. from the University of Alberta and a B.Ed. from the University of Lethbridge. Barbara has extensive experience in educational settings, having taught at both junior and senior high levels and served as a technology consultant and school administrator within the Calgary Catholic School District. Her research focuses on technology-enhanced learning environments and the leadership practices that support effective teaching and learning in K-12 and postsecondary contexts. She is involved in several projects aimed at improving educational practices, including addressing mobile device usage in schools and exploring high-impact educational practices in online learning environments. Notably, Barbara is a founding member of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Ethics, Literacy, and Integrity (CAIELI) at Doucette Library, and serves as Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning, demonstrating her commitment to advancing educational leadership and technology integration.
