Brent Davis was born and raised in northern Alberta and taught secondary school mathematics and science in the 1980s. After completing his graduate studies in the mid-90s, he began his university career at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and subsequently moved to York University and the University of Alberta, where he held the Canada Research Chair in Mathematics Education and Ecology of Learning. He then returned to UBC as the David Robitaille Chair in Mathematics Education before finally joining the University of Calgary as the Distinguished Research Chair in Mathematics Education, where he currently holds the Werklund Research Professorship. His research has focused on the educational relevance of recent developments in cognitive complexity sciences, resulting in numerous publications, including books and articles in mathematics education, curriculum theory, teacher education, epistemology, and action research. His principal research interests include teachers' disciplinary knowledge in mathematics and the structures of experiences that support mathematics learning for teachers.
