Biography

Brigitte Stanké is an associate professor at the School of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at the Université de Montréal and a researcher at the Normand-Maurice Chair. Her research focuses primarily on reading and spelling acquisition as well as their disorders, specifically dyslexia and dysorthographia. She is particularly interested in the role of orthographic lexical memory on the reading and spelling skills of students, including those with learning difficulties. Stanké has published numerous books and resources aimed at rehabilitating reading and spelling learning difficulties and has developed educational software and screening tests for identifying students at risk of written language learning difficulties. Her recent research projects include standardizing and validating an early screening test and implementing innovative approaches to foster written production learning in students with spelling challenges. Moreover, she seeks to understand how assistive technologies can support the development of writing skills within a comprehensive learning framework.
