Biography

Drew Whitworth is an academic known for his work in teaching and research, particularly in the areas of distance and online learning. He earned his PhD from the University of Leeds in 2001 and began his teaching career as a Teaching Fellow at the School of Computing in Leeds before moving to Manchester in 2005. Whitworth served as Programme Director for the MA in Digital Technologies, Communication and Education from its inception in 2007 until 2016, and he has held the position of Director of Teaching and Learning Strategy at the Manchester Institute of Education. He is the author of three books on information literacy and technology: Information Obesity (2009), Radical Information Literacy (2014), and Mapping Information Landscapes (2020). His contributions to education have been recognized with several awards, including the Catalyst Award for Communication Strategies and the title of the University's Most Innovative Lecturer as chosen by students. His research interests encompass critical theory in education, information practice, visual mapping of information landscapes, and professional development within learning communities.
