Dr. Ianthi Tsimpli

Biography

Ianthi Maria Tsimpli works on language development in children and adults, language impairment, attrition, bilingualism, language processing, and the interaction of language with cognitive abilities and print exposure. She has held positions as Professor of Multilingualism Cognition at the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences, University of Reading, and as Professor of Psycholinguistics and Director of the Language Development Lab at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. Tsimpli holds a BA in Modern Greek Literature and Byzantine Studies from the University of Athens and a PhD in Linguistics from University College London (1992). Her doctoral thesis was published in 1996. She has extensively researched case studies and co-authored publications, including works with Neil Smith. Tsimpli has taught at several institutions, including University College London and University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. She founded and directs a lab focused on language development and has been involved in multiple national and international research projects. She has also held fellowships and visiting professorships in various prestigious institutions. Tsimpli serves on editorial boards for multiple linguistic journals and welcomes inquiries from potential MPhil and PhD students whose research interests align with hers.
