Dr. Julia Gorham

Biography

Julia Gorham specializes in applied linguistics and language acquisition, with a focus on teacher education. She earned her Ph.D. in French Language Acquisition from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, her M.A. in French Linguistics from the University of Arizona, and holds a B.A. in Francophone Studies and a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of South Dakota. Julia has published her research in top-tier journals such as Foreign Language Annals and Frontiers in Language Research Practice. Committed to education, she prioritizes teaching undergraduate students at ANU, where she has taught courses including Introductory French Studies II and Continuing French II, as well as various upper-level courses in French language and culture. Julia is passionate about study abroad programs, having accompanied groups of students on faculty-led trips to Paris, France. Her research interests include language program evaluation, curriculum development, social justice in language education, and multiliteracies pedagogy. She is currently involved in a project that employs a mixed-methods approach to assess the use and implementation of critical pedagogy in language classrooms.
