Dr. Kumiko Kunizane

Biography

Kumiko Kunizane is a Continuing Lecturer and Coordinator of Japanese Language Culture Studies at the University of Waterloo. She has taught multi-level learners of the Japanese language across various countries, including Japan, the United States, New Zealand, and South Korea. Her scholarly interests encompass second-language acquisition, curriculum design, assessment, feedback, plurilingual approaches, and heritage language education. Kumiko has been involved in numerous courses, ranging from beginner to advanced levels of Japanese. She is also active in the academic community, participating in conferences and publishing research related to Japanese language education, most notably focusing on innovative teaching methods and community engagement in language learning. Kumiko's commitment to enhancing Japanese language education is evident in her efforts to make resources and opportunities more accessible for learners of diverse backgrounds.
