Biography

Maria Grazia Imperiale holds a PhD in Language Education from the University of Glasgow. Her doctoral research focused on intercultural language education in the context of the Gaza Strip (Palestine). She has an MA (Hons) in Applied Linguistics and Intercultural Communication from the University for Foreigners Siena, Italy, and a BA (Hons) in Linguistic Intercultural Mediation from the same institution. Maria is a CELTA certified language teacher and teacher trainer with experience teaching Italian and English to foreign language adults in Italy, Australia, Lebanon, Morocco, and the UK. She has worked as a postdoctoral research associate on various research projects and has coordinated the Culture Sustainable Inclusive Peace Network+, focusing on conflict transformation through arts-based methods in Palestine, Mexico, Morocco, Zimbabwe, and Ghana. Her research interests include intercultural language education in emergency situations, language education for wellbeing and resilience, adult education, teacher identity and agency, and critical pedagogy. Maria employs qualitative approaches in her work, particularly participatory methodologies and decolonizing frameworks, emphasizing the ethics of research in fragile settings.
