Biography

Seong Mae Ryoo earned an Ed.D. in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Temple University, focusing on the relationship between teachers' written comments and students' writing proficiency. She received her M.S.Ed. in Educational Linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.A. in English Literature from Busan National University in Korea. Seong Mae Ryoo teaches English Composition and ESL courses at Penn State Harrisburg, including ENGL 83, ESL 15, ESL 5, and ESL 116G/ENGL 497. Previously, she taught courses in linguistics, Academic Writing, and Business English at Temple University in Philadelphia. She is a two-time recipient of the Excellent Teacher Award for her work in the Writing Program at Temple University. Her research interests focus on language writing (L2 writing), assessment of L2 writing, teacher response research, and the statistical analysis of teacher comments related to writing improvement, as well as linguistic error patterns in English writing among students from L1 backgrounds.
