As an education researcher and professor of Empirical School and Instructional Development Research, I aim to contribute to a better understanding of the development and significance of teachers' professional competence through my research. It is important to me that my research results are applicable to evidence-based practice and ultimately contribute to improving the quality of schooling and instruction. To achieve these goals, I combine various methodological approaches and address important questions regarding teachers' professional competence and instructional quality from a pedagogical-psychological perspective: How can the development of teachers' professional competence be best supported throughout the phases of teacher training? What is the importance of teachers' professional competence for their long-term career success? What support do teachers need in the challenging initial phase of their careers? What psychological characteristics of the learning opportunities in schools and teacher training are significant for student success? I am a member of the international research network of the E-CER Group (Center for Excellence in Research EARLI). In teaching, I am particularly engaged in teacher training programs, placing a high emphasis on research orientation in both content selection and competencies-oriented course design.
