Biography

Eva Lam specializes in the area of language, literacy, and diversity education. She works at the intersection of literacy studies and applied linguistics, studying multilingual practices, digital literacies, and narratives within expansive forms of learning in transnational cultural and political contexts. Her ethnographic work has explored the digital media practices of youth from migrant backgrounds, shedding light on how they understand practices in the larger contexts of transnational movements, social networks, and identities, as well as the flows of media content and artifacts. She collaborates with colleagues in the fields of education, journalism, and design research, particularly focusing on multimedia storytelling and documentary-making, exploring how young people utilize diverse knowledge and representational resources in narrating migration stories. A broader goal of her research program is to contribute to societal education by mobilizing linguistic and cultural diversity as critical resources to promote students' academic, social, and political learning in an intercultural world.
