Biography

Rebecca D. Silverman is a professor at the Stanford Graduate School of Education, where she has been since 2018. Her career began as an elementary school teacher in New Orleans, Louisiana. Rebecca is passionate about supporting children's literacy development, having earned her master's and doctoral degrees in language and literacy from Harvard Graduate School of Education. She previously taught in the Department of Special Education at the University of Maryland. At Stanford, she leads the Language Literacy Research Lab, focusing on research-practice partnerships in the San Francisco Bay Area, and has taught both undergraduate and graduate pre-service educators, mentoring numerous doctoral students. Beyond Stanford, she has served internationally as a Fulbright Scholar in Myanmar and is active in several editorial and advisory roles within educational organizations.
