Biography

Valerie Irvine is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy at the University of Victoria. She holds a PhD in Educational Psychology and Instructional Technology from the University of Alberta, alongside a BA in English Literature and a BEd in Intermediate Elementary Education from the University of British Columbia. Dr. Irvine specializes in Educational Technology and Curriculum Instruction, focusing on e-learning and multi-access learning which she has been developing since 2009. As the founder and co-director of the Technology Integration Evaluation (TIE) Research Lab, she has secured $1.7 million in funding from various organizations including the Canada Foundation for Innovation. An influential member of the academic community, Dr. Irvine served as an executive member and co-chair for the AACE EdMedia conference held in Victoria in 2013. She teaches several courses at the University of Victoria, including EDCI 336: Technology Innovation in Education and EDCI 515: E-Research, emphasizing the integration of technology in research and learning processes. Additionally, Dr. Irvine has received multiple awards for her commitment to graduate student supervision and has actively mentored undergraduate research. Her research interests include technology adoption, digital literacy, and open education, and she is involved in projects exploring personalized learning and innovative teaching methods in K-12 and higher education contexts.
